Before the August gubernatorial election, His Imperial Majesty, Oba Enitan Ogunwusi, the Ooni of Ife, expressed worries about the political climate in Osun State.
According to Naija News, the Ooni disclosed this on Tuesday when Joash Amupitan, the chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), paid the Palace a courtesy call.
The Ooni claims that Osun State's political environment has grown more unsettling and stressful for its citizens.
The monarch also called on INEC to help the state's citizens by serving as a just arbiter, letting the people make their own decisions free from outside intervention.
"To be honest, all the traditional rulers are here, willing to tell you the truth," he continued. Osun State is now experiencing a great deal of conflict. There is a great deal of political tension.
For the last five hours, we have been talking about this. Should we continue to be passive? We must put aside political issues as traditional rulers. All politicians are subordinate to Osun State.
"Osun State is superior to us. All we have are our predecessors' thrones. Term limits do not apply to us. But we have to make sure that whatever we do is done with integrity, justice, and fairness.
"We are accountable for the good, the bad, and the ugly. We should interact with politicians from both the present administration and the opposition and constantly offer them sincere advice.
The welfare of the people must be their top priority, and they must act justly, fairly, and morally. We are finding Osun's political unrest intolerable. It really is quite concerning.
"We would want to make an appeal to you and express our profound gratitude to the leader, the father of our country, who has enabled you to uphold your freedom and given you all the tools you need to behave in a just, equitable, and moral manner.
"You have the ability to influence history. History can be shaped by you. You have made your decision, and you will leave a lasting legacy. Your tenure, your leadership, and your name, Amupitan, will be legendary. You have been leading well, and this name is important to all of us.
"We will undoubtedly face a number of difficulties. You are aiming for greatness even if you have admitted that perfection is unachievable. Be fair, just, and honorable. Osun State's political situation is getting more and more tense.
"We do not want to disturb the tranquility. We want free, just, and fair elections. As the arbiter, we beg you to ease the strain. You are the one who can make sure that everything goes without a hitch. Recognize that the election will not be supervised by the President in Abuja.
He has given you all the tools you need to carry out your responsibilities in a professional manner, and we have confidence in your talents. All eyes are on you because of this. As you said, the next election in Horseshoe is crucial. The general election is reflected in it.
It is now known that the election will be held in Horseshoe on August 15, 2026; it is no longer just a rumor. It is a reality now. Everyone in Osun is listening to us because we have you here in person. Here, our traditional leaders represent every aspect of Osun. We therefore make an appeal to you. It is your responsibility. We implore you to behave morally. We implore you to behave justly.
"Politicians are just motivated by alignment; they do not sustain enduring friendships or rivalries. But at what cost is alignment? our neighborhood's. It is enough. This political strain cannot continue.
